VENUES & FIRST NIGHTS
Choosing the venue for your wedding is the most important decision and often one that has to be made a long way in advance of your wedding to secure a date. The ceremony itself is a deciding factor to begin with. Obviously if you are opting to run up the aisle in church then your venue is simply for reception purposes.

Depending on numbers you could hold a reception at a marquee in your parents garden, a local restaurant, hotel or country club. The choice is yours. Clearly if your parents live in a semi-detached and you have 500 guests a marquee is out of the questions so think logically. And try and make the venue within a 30 minute drive to keep the day flowing nicely.

Licensed Venues for civil ceremonies are popping up all over the place with venues such as castles, stately homes and even zoos! So if you are getting married in one it is most likely you will hold the reception their too. More time for drinking - oops we mean socialising with the guests.

Just remember to book in advance to avoid disappointment as some venues can be booked on popular weekends in the summer months years in advance.

Since 1994 the law has changed enabling any building in England and Wales to apply for a Wedding licence so zoos, football stadiums, theme parks, even moored boats along with hotels, pubs, stately homes, the list just goes on and on.

Perhaps getting married in a Chelsea strip with a matching blue bouquet isn't your thing but try and think of your dream wedding. Where would it be?

Photographs are so important on your wedding day so try and look around the venues for perfect photo opportunities.

A list of approved civil venues is available for £5 from The Office of National Statistics on 0151 471 4817 or contact your local council for a list of venues in your area.

THE WEDDING NIGHT

The most important form of accommodation that you have in mind is the wedding night itself. Where will you stay for your first night as Mr & Mrs? Do you want contemporary design or the traditional hanging from the chandeliers and a four-poster bed. Well whatever tickles your fancy we can help at manandwife.co.uk.

FLIGHTS OF FANCY

But lets think. Have you got an early flight to catch the day after the wedding? Therefore would it be sensible to stay near the airport? After all, you will be on a high with adrenalin so a car journey won't do you any harm but by morning the events of the day before will leave you exhausted!

PRANKSTERS

Do you want to stay with your guests or are they likely to be playing pranks on you all night and after all do you really want to go to breakfast with Aunty Doreen and Uncle Herbert who is likely to have forgotten to shave, or wash even! Some hotels will have different wings so perhaps ask that your guests are situated in another section to yourselves so that if anything were to happen on the wedding night, wink wink, nudge nudge, there are no prying ears to the walls and you can go to breakfast safe in the knowledge that your secrets are safe and sound!

THINK OF OTHERS

So there is a lot to think about. And you do not only have to think about yourselves. Families are spread up and down the country and indeed worldwide so many of your guests will need putting up and unless you want to share your house with Uncle Herbert you better get a shifty on and sort things out.

LIST THE LOCALS

One idea is to make a list of local hotels and include it with the invitations. If you are holding your reception at the hotel be sure to ask if the guests receive a discount as many offer this. Always list a range of prices. Contact local B & B's to cater for those who don't want to pay out too much right thought to the five-star grandeur. Weddings can be costly for guests what with outfits, journeys and accommodation, not to mention your very expensive gift list!
